- She was a dental assistant when she heard Pearl Harbor was bombed. She tried to get into the Navy but she's small and weighed only 100lbs / the min was 120lbs. So she worked for a short time as an intermediate clerk, then a riveter for almost 2 years. She was small so worked on the stub wing where it meets the fuselage. They worked 2 weeks day shift, 2 weeks night, 2 weeks graveyard. She said a big band worked there and when they worked graveyard they'd bring their instruments and everyone would dance and have a ball.
