Agnes Elder Obituary ELDER, Agnes DiClaudio, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the age of 96 years, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Augustino and Giuseppinia Martinelli DiClaudio; her husband, Walter O. Elder; brothers, Jino DiClaudio and Marlo DiClaudio. Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Francine Elder Stanley (Henry); granddaughter, Dena High Sawyer (Sean) and granddaughter, Paula Grace Sawyer; sisters, Helen Cavazza of Heritage, Pa. and Rosie Kish of Sharon, Pa.; brother, Herman DiClaudio of Sandusky, Ohio; along with numerous nieces and nephews. "Aggie" was born in Sharon, Pa. on September 7, 1926. During WWII, she worked in the Westinghouse Plant as a drill press operator making parts for the General Sherman tanks. She married Walter Elder on November 10, 1945 and became a devoted wife and mother while being stationed in Fort Meade, Md., Fort Benning, Ga. and several other army bases. In later years, Aggie worked as a food demonstrator in a local retail business. She became a "Rosie" in the American Rosie the Riveters Association due to her help with the WWII war effort and was quite proud to be a "Rosie." She never met a stranger and always said that her door was always open and that there was always room for one more at her table. Making pasta and sewing for friends and family were her favorite pastimes. She loved her family dearly and shared her memories and wisdom with each of them. She was also known as "Mama Aggie," "Miss Aggie," "Grammy" and "Gram." I knew her as "Mom." She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at First Free Will Baptist Church on Hungry Road at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to For the Love of Poodles Rescue in Oilville, Va. Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Feb. 5, 2023.
