Operated an engine lathe at Pratt Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, CT from 1942-45. In 1943, she moved to East Harford, where she proudly served as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Company. At this same time, a young Coast Guardsman, Henry "Hank" James Swody, was renting a room from her mother on the farm. They fell in love and Thelma and Hank were married in September 1945
