Thrapp spent more than a year building nose sections for B-17 warplanes near Seattle's Lake Union in 1943 and 1944. But she says she didn't fully appreciate her place in American history until she got on the Internet a few months ago and discovered an organization whose membership requirements fit her to a T: the American Rosie the Riveter Association. The nonprofit group seeks to preserve the legacy of working women during World War II, and to promote patriotism and civic responsibility. Its namesake is a fictitious character immortalized in song, film and the iconic graphic design of a woman flexing her arm and declaring, "We Can Do It!"
