- Welder - My mother said she was 18 to get a job, but she was actually 17. They sent her to an all night class and was hired. She became a welder! She learned how to vertical weld and overhead weld. She passed the one night class and became an Arc Welder on swing shift. She was given the name "Frankie", I guess because she was so young. Eventually she became a Union Melt Welder which meant running a machine and it included an assistant (Amy Lambert) who a few years later married my brother, Bud, and became my sister-in-law. Her short story was published in volume five, "The Legacy Lives On!", page 45.
