- Following graduation, she studied engineering drawing at the Penn State University Extension School in Greensburg, enabling her to do drafting for Superior Mold and Iron Co. (a division of the former Hockensmith Corp.) in Penn. She was the first woman hired by the engineering department. She was a member of American Rosie the Riveter Association (ARRA), a national organization of former women war workers. Mary Lou had written for ARRA and her articles and copies of her World War II drawings are part of the ARRA Exhibit at the Birmingham Museum in Alabama. She also contributed a story to the WQED TV book: "Pittsburgh WWII Stories -- Preserving Our Legacy." Mary Lou was honored by the American Biographical Institute as one of 2,000 notable women.
