FLYING HIGH

In 1945 on a June day
For two dollars a ticket was a play
Put on by Boeing Aircraft Company
Composed of Aero mechanics mainly
The play in rehearsal for a full year
In Seattle the performance was near
The title they gave it was Flying High
And costumes from Hollywood they did try
The cast sang and danced and twirled all around
The stunts were complicated it was found
Jackie Sanders was a part of the cast
And part of her role was twirling knives fast
Moved to Seattle when she was sixteen
She found some work making flying machines
Rosie the Riveter she was known as
A gal with gumption and full of pizzazz
Women took over when men went to war
The building of airplanes and other chores
She was not alone and others did come
Her mother and sister offered their sum
A time of uncertainty and of strife
Of who would live and come back to their wife
One day the time came when women moved on
The war had ended and many men gone
Women returned to the life that they knew
American men brought changes back too
After the war just like many women
She gave up her job and began again
Jackie moved back from the place she had left
Reacquainting with friends that were her best
Howard Zubrod returned from World War Two
Soon they would marry and all would be new
For our freedom they both contributed
She building machines and army he led
And good Americans they had become
Bringing pride to their name was said by some
Flying high is the life that Jackie led
The memories live on inside our heads.
