Romaine F. Smith
Born in 1925, Wilkes-Barre, PA
“I worked in one of the silk mills in Wilkes-Barre making parachute silk. Then went on to Hatboro, PA with my older sister and her husband – who was a tool and die maker – to Brewster Air Craft near the Navy base making fighter planes. After their production slowed down, we went on to Budd Aircraft, who before the war made automobile wheels. There I had two weeks training to be a spot welder on a huge cargo plane.
I married a Navy man in 1944, and had four children. Later living in Minnesota, I had a banking career. I now enjoying living in McMinnville, Oregon close to grand and great grandchildren.”
